Tonight, I went to Chick-fil-A for dinner. I walked in at the same time as a police officer and another man.
They were walking in from a different parking lot. The man looked dirty (I don’t know if he was homeless, and I don’t think it’s my place to say). He was carrying a bag with a Nike shoe box in it.
I don’t know if new shoes were in the bag or where they got them. But I was listening to them talk, and the police officer told the man, “Get whatever you’d like.” Then, the officer reached into his own pocket to buy the man some food.
I know it’s a fact that many people have a bad image of police officers. I hear the word “pigs” far too often, and I think that’s wrong. I understand there are a few bad officers who take things too far, but today I saw an extremely kind act between two strangers.
It’s hard to turn on the news today without your mind filling up with fear and bad things. But let this be a reminder that there are good people in this world… people who do good things and who love and serve their community well.
