Think Wild, a nonprofit wildlife hospital in Bend, Oregon, rescues and rehabilitates injured and orphaned wild animals across Central and Eastern Oregon.

Volunteers wear camouflage suits to reduce the stress of human presence, which can be fatal for already weakened wild animals. Maintaining minimal human contact is also key to ensuring the animals retain their natural instincts and can survive after release.

On summer days, Think Wild’s hotline receives as many as 30 calls a day.

“We really encourage people to call our hotline if they see an injured or orphaned animal, if they have wildlife questions or concerns,” Wild executive director Sally Compton commented.

Think Wild is supported entirely by grants and private donations and is prohibited by state regulations from treating certain adult wild animals like deer, bears, and wolves. However, the organization is working to expand its capabilities, including plans to build a special enclosure for rehabilitating fawns.
