Patrice Banks grew up in poverty and was the first in her family to graduate from high school and college. She was also the first in her family to own a car.

Patrice majored in materials engineering at Lehigh University, PA, and after graduating she went to work as an engineer for multinational giant DuPont.

Despite her flourishing career, Patrice wanted to make a change and be useful to others. Like many other women, she dreaded the experience of being taken advantage of at an auto-service shop due to her lack of knowledge about cars. So, she started visiting night classes to become a mechanic.

In 2017, she opened the ‘Girls Auto Clinic’ in Upper Darby, and a year later, she employed five women mechanics. Patrice now teaches other women to repair and maintain cars. In addition to the car shop, she also opened a Clutch Beauty Bar, a salon offering manicures, pedicures, and blowouts for customers waiting for repairs.
