Our dog, Bailey, was two when we got him. We were his third home, and he had just spent nine months in a rescue centre for behavioural training (hed been abused). He was very confused at first, he’d just met us, now we were taking him away. He spent a lot of time on the couch, just watching us. He messed inside (although he seemed pretty embarrassed). When we took him for walks, he walked all crouched down, he was scared of literally everything. After around ten days, something clicked and, with us, his behaviour changed suddenly and dramatically. Suddenly he was asking for pats, staying with us all the time and seemed happy. Out was a different matter, it took around two years to get him confident, another one to two to allow others to pat him on his walks. He is now normal (I think) for him. He goes into most situations with confidence, gets on with other dogs (except big puppies) and is well trained as he gets bored without something to learn. It was a lot of work, but worth it
