Meet Andy — he works at Lowe’s in Wilkesboro, NC, and he just might be one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet.
A couple of weeks ago, my best friend and I brought in our rescue pup, Baxter’s wheelchair cart. Baxter needed a little extra support — a third wheel in the back to keep him from tipping. We had the idea, but we needed help figuring out how to make it work.
So we headed to the project desk and asked if there was anyone who was good at thinking outside the box. Without hesitation, they called for Andy.
Andy didn’t just help us — he joined us, literally sitting on the floor of the hardware aisle, brainstorming with us for nearly an hour. He listened, asked questions, and helped us come up with a simple, affordable solution. We left with the right parts, a solid plan, and only spent \$5. But what we gained was worth so much more.
After a vet visit a few days later, we brought Baxter back to Lowe’s to show Andy the finished cart. Andy was at the project desk when we arrived — and the moment he saw Baxter, he lit up. He came right out, dropped to the floor again, and introduced himself to Baxter with the biggest smile. He gave the cart a full once-over, listened as we explained the tweaks we made, and gave it his official seal of approval.
I asked to speak with the store manager to share just how much Andy’s help meant to us — not just his time, but his patience, creativity, and genuine kindness. The manager asked if we’d share our story so he could pass it along to Corporate — because people like Andy deserve to be recognized.
As we were saying goodbye, Andy gave us both big hugs. He said he and his wife would be honored to dog-sit Baxter anytime we needed. As my friend Lolly put it perfectly:
“Andy’s reaction made my heart smile.”
Mine too.
So if you’re ever in Wilkesboro, NC, stop by Lowe’s.
Find Andy.
Shake his hand.
Tell him thank you — not just from us, but from every animal lover and rescue parent out there.
Because sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness — like sitting on the floor and helping a pup get his wheels — leave the biggest impact. 🐶💛
