“I hate to break the bad news, but Sam passed away naturally at 18 years old two days ago. He got really sick really fast (in less than 10 hours) because of a problem with his heart. Just two days before, he was happily playing with his ball. On the way to the vet, we stopped at the dog park for one last cheeseburger, but he wouldn’t eat it. When I looked into his eyes, I knew I had to try to help him if there was still a chance. I decided not to let him go just yet and chose to drain the fluid around his heart to give us a few more days to figure things out. But right after I paid, the emergency vet rushed out and told me he was passing away. They had done the procedure, which was supposed to help, but his body just couldn’t take it. I think the way he went was peaceful. He didn’t suffer much and kept fighting until the end. I chose not to resuscitate him because I didn’t want him to go through that again. I feel like we both got the goodbye we needed. I will miss him a lot, but I’m really glad we faced this together with love.”
