Bruno Serato, an Italian restaurant owner in Anaheim, CA, found hope when firefighters recovered a silver crucifix from his burned restaurant. According to Serato, the crucifix was a gift from Pope Francis. He took it as a divine sign to persevere.

Chef Serato now operates a new restaurant but with a mission. He serves paying customers at night and feeds the hungry during the day.

“We do that every day, and now we prepare 5,000 plates of pasta and deliver to 90 locations. We have served more than 3 million kids,” he commented.

Chef Serato also offers employment to teens in need of jobs, helps find housing for the homeless.

Bruno sees his work as honoring Pope Francis’ legacy of helping those in need.

“I have to keep doing what I’m doing,” he said with humor, “if I don’t he will come down!”
