After the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, a baby hippo named Owen was rescued and brought to Haller Park in Kenya—lost, scared, and alone. There, he formed an unlikely but beautiful bond with Mzee, a 130-year-old Aldabra tortoise.
Despite their differences in species, size, and age, the two became inseparable—eating, resting, and swimming together. Owen found comfort, and Mzee, unexpectedly, gave it.
Their story is a powerful reminder that friendship knows no bounds.
