Brayden Carpenter decided to shave his head to show his support for his homecoming date, Allie, and her mom, Debbi, who are both fighting different types of cancer.
Allie, Brayden’s date, is currently battling brain cancer, while her mom, Debbi Allen, is going through treatment for breast cancer. Debbi shared, “Allie had surgery and went through 33 rounds of radiation. Unfortunately, there’s no cure or remission. We kind of live from scan to scan.”
“There have been a few times when Allie has thought about stopping her treatment, but she knows that if she does, it could be the end,” Debbi explained. “It’s tough for her not to feel healthy and not to have that normal experience of being a 17-year-old. That’s all she really wants.”
Allie was diagnosed with brain cancer two and a half years ago, but after her treatment, her scans came back clear. Debbi found out she had stage three breast cancer in March.
“I went through eight rounds of chemo, took a couple of weeks off, and now I’m in the middle of my radiation treatment,” Debbi said. “I just finished my 19th session, and I have 30 in total, so Allie and I are kind of on the same path with our radiation treatments.”
