Over the weekend I took Kira with me to run some errands and promised her we would stop for lunch. She loves going out with me.

As we were leaving the restaurant, we passed a couple sitting at a table. Out of nowhere, Kira walked straight over to the woman and just stood there looking at her. I told Kira to leave them alone, but she wouldn’t budge. She just kept staring.

The woman reached out and began petting Kira’s head. That’s when she told me they had just lost their beloved dog two weeks ago. My heart sank for them. They explained how quiet their home had become and how much they missed the sound of paws around the house.

The man started asking me questions about Kira and about German Shepherds in general. I told him they are incredible companions and that Kira herself is a rescue. They were amazed and began asking how rescues work and what the adoption process is like.

We ended up sitting down together and I must have answered 50 questions. The man shared something he had never even told his wife before… that he had always dreamed of having a German Shepherd since childhood. His wife looked at him and asked why he had never said anything. He admitted he didn’t think she would want one.

Her response brought tears to his eyes.
“If you want a German Shepherd, then we’ll adopt one.”
“Really?” he asked, his voice shaking.
“Yes,” she smiled, “we’ll adopt one for you.”

At that moment she turned to me and asked if I knew of a good rescue. That’s when I placed Kira’s card on the table.

“Wait… she’s the ambassador for the GSD rescue?”
“Yes,” I told them, “and somehow she knew she could help you.”

In a few weeks I’ll be meeting with them to help find their new German Shepherd.

Kira… you never stop amazing me. ❤️🐾
