In the small town of Kawara, southern Japan, a unique trading card game has captured children’s attention. Instead of Pokémon or anime heroes, these cards feature local middle-aged and elderly men from the Saidosho community.

The collection includes 47 different cards with 28 featuring local men, complete with stats and special abilities. Popular cards include “Firewall” Mr. Honda, 74, a former fire brigade chief, and “All-Rounder” Mr. Fujii, 68, who now signs autographs for young fans.

“We wanted to strengthen the connection between the children and the older generations in the community. There are so many amazing people here. I thought it was such a shame that no one knew about them.” – Eri Miyahara, creator of the game, commented.

The strategy has worked remarkably well, with participation in town events reportedly doubling since the game launched.
