We took this little guy in after he was found abandoned in a rental home. The tenants had been evicted and left behind a pile of trash — and him. Alone, confused, and terrified.

When the rescue called, I didn’t hesitate. We already had a fawn Doberman and a Rottie at home, both big, gentle souls, and I wasn’t sure how they’d take to such a tiny newcomer. But from the moment Fitzgerald waddled into our lives, something just clicked.

Despite his rough start, Fitzgerald’s heart was wide open. He follows me everywhere — from room to room, outside to inside, never more than a few steps behind. His big, round eyes watch my every move like I’m the sun in his little world.

The big dogs welcomed him instantly, treating him like a little brother. Our Doberman shares his toys. The Rottie lets Fitz curl up against him for naps. It’s like they knew he needed a family.

Every night, Fitzgerald snuggles under the covers, his tiny head tucked under my chin. I can’t believe someone could leave behind a soul this sweet.

We named him Fitzgerald because it felt like a name meant for a survivor. And now, he’ll never be left behind again. He’s home. And our hearts — and pack — feel beautifully complete.
