Juan and his culture

He keeps talking about his culture, and he’s right — it is his job to teach his son his language, and it’s great that he wants his son to grow up bilingual. But why should Jessica have to learn Spanish? The child will already be exposed to Spanish through him. It makes more sense to follow the “one parent, one language” approach, where each parent consistently speaks their own native language to the child.

If Jessica isn’t a native Spanish speaker, why should the child learn Spanish with her accent or possibly incorrect grammar? That could actually make things harder. Plus, they’re going to be living in the U.S., where English will be the dominant language in school and society. It just makes more sense for her to speak English, while he focuses on Spanish.
