Help with wedding dresses.
Hello folks!
My oldest is getting married and they’ve chosen to wear a shirt made from their grandmother’s wedding dresses (1955 and 1965) and my wedding dress from 1996.)
I am an experienced sewist, and don’t have any qualms about the actual sewing of the shirt, but I will be working with vintage fabric and that is new to me. The shirt is going to be a blousy, pirate-y style (with the shoulders and sleeves being organza from the 1965 dress, and the bottom of the shirt from the 1955 dress. Some of the lace appliques from the 1996 dress will be sewn on the shirt.
Is there anything I should keep in mind about cutting and sewing? Should the hem of the shirt be a rolled hem or a wider hem? French seams? Bias covered seams?
I’m going to start by washing the 2 older dresses with cool water and Soak detergent.
Is there any thing else I should be aware of?
